Hello John,

We do not handle probate costs in other states, so that any comparison would be speculation. Having said that, probate process is fairly consistent throughout the country, especially when comparing states like Massachusetts that have adopted the Uniform Probate Code. Probate is not something to be avoided at all costs, but doing so (e.g. with a trust) ensures that administration fees are minimized upon death, that estate administration is not a public affair involving the courts, and that the assets are distributed more immediately.

Thanks,
Tim

For a relatively simple estate (expected to be about $2 million), with no expected complications of contestments, is it really something to be avoided at all costs?
