Hello Paul,

This is not MassHealth but a law firm website. Questions about your healthcare plan should be directed to your healthcare provider. Any assistance we provide in obtaining insurance benefits is related to the MassHealth application for elderly individuals

    who require long term care

. You are fortunately not in that situation, unless you need assistance with your activities of daily living.

Hello Joe,

You should contact your county elder services and ask them for information about Medicare open enrollment. We are a law firm, and while we work with many organizations in Barnstable and Plymouth counties, we aren’t able to ourselves assist acquiring with your Medicare supplement plan.

She was on Medicaid and receiving long term care in a nursing home (8 years). The nursing home just sent me a bill (as next of kin) for $72.80. They say it is the balance left on her statement. Am I liable for this?

IN OTHER WORDS, CAN SHE JUST KEEP PART A, AND KEEP THE MASS HEALTH?
I HOPE I HAVE MADE THIS SOME WHAT CLEAR.

Hello Mesha,

I’m not sure from this comment if you have any questions about your parents’ care, but if you do feel free to call our office any time.

Thanks,
Tim

Hello Sandra,

The government’s health care system is complex, and getting more so by the day. With that in mind our office is only familiar with qualifying Cape Cod and Massachusetts elderly clients for MassHealth skilled nursing care, which is a complex area all by itself. In any case I can’t offer any authoritative information on such programs at your daughter’s age. Upon a bit of research, it does seem that every person receiving social security disability insurance will also receive Medicare automatically: http://www.medicareinteractive.org/page2.php?topic=counselor&page=script&script_id=15

Within the elderly context, most all of our clients are already receiving Medicare when they qualify for MassHealth. The benefits they then become entitled to at that stage are provided over and above their current Medicare benefits, in addition to any Medicare supplement plan they may have, usually from a private insurer. So based on my experience with MassHealth Standard, I do not believe that qualifying for Medicare will disqualify your daughter for MassHealth. Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Tim
