Hello George,

To complete tax returns with confidence, we usually recommend our clients speak with a CPA. Finding one in your area should be sufficient, but we prefer working with Massachusetts accountants on any Massachusetts probate estate.

He passed away this past year. We were able to maneuver through the probate system and became his executors of his estate. (Single, no children, no will, no real-estate) We live in Florida. I’m pretty savvy at preparing my own taxes, but his has become a little daunting, maybe because it’s Massachusetts and the distance. Any suggestions.

She has a house that is still owned by the bank. I know i have to go to probate and fillout some type of paperwork. I just don’t know what paperwork they are and will i be responsible for all her other outstanding bills.

Based on what you have written here, if the woman your ex-husband was living with is unwilling to turn over some of his property, your daughter would need to open a probate to gain legal control over his property. This situation, however, is probably best handled with the advice and representation of an attorney in your area. Thanks and feel free to call with any further questions.
